When it comes to the mini tablet computer, anybody and everybody appears to want a piece of the pie as it is now being rumored that Best Buy is joining the Fun.
The massive electronics chain is the only major retailer selling the Apple iPad, but it it is being reported that they might be developing a rival device of their own.

Taking to Twitter earlier this week Robert Stephens, chief technology officer and founder of Best Buy’s Geek Squad posted some pics of a prototype tablet computer that he says the company is developing.
“I’ve been tweeting photos of tablet for months. So much for the realtime web. No one should be surprised. Who do you think makes Insignia?” He tweeted.
Just last week it was reported that India had plans to launch a $35 tablet aimed at its students, hundreds of dollars less than the cost of Apple’s iPad computer.
Should Apple be concerned over all of these cheaper alternatives being rumored to be near to the US market?

One of the big parts of the gadget market that is set to continue into the future is the combination of gadgets with other things. For example, the combination of technology with clothing is something that we might start seeing more of in the near future and that future is here right now with the Hood.e concept.

Quite simply, Hood.e was developed by a man that was interested in ensuring that his son had a safe trip to school. The son would listen to his ipod on the walk with the earphones stuck in his ears. At the same time, he was crossing busy terrain and intersections and for that reason the lack of hearing of the ambient noise around him was a big concern for this father.

Hood.e was the result of this conundrum. Hood.e is a hooded shirt that has speakers actually embedded into the sides of the hood, allowing the wearer to put the hood on and listen to the music through those speakers. They can still hear the music but because the speakers are not right in their ears, they can still hear other noises and for that reason they can respond to anything potentially dangerous that might happen to them along the path.

This idea, while brilliant, also has some major drawbacks to it. The primary drawback is the fact that the person wearing the Hood.e , especially if they happen to be a younger person, might get mugged and have the sweater stolen from them in short order. In any case, the Hood.e design is not even off the drawing board in realistic terms, but it promises to get to production at some point and when it does it will be one of the coolest gadgets around. The idea is certainly better than many of the other ones that you see in the present day gadget niche market.

Microsoft Surface is a 30-inch (76 cm) display in the form of a table, 22 inches (56 cm) tall, 21 inches (53 cm) deep, and 42 inches (107 cm) left to right. The tabletop is acrylic, while the interior frame is constructed of powder-coated steel. The platform’s software runs on a customized version of Windows Vista, and is equipped with wired Ethernet 10/100, wireless 802.11 b/g, and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. Released on May 30th, 2007, Microsoft Surface came to light in early 2001, and similar concepts have been featured in movies like Minority Report, who actually talked with Microsoft during the making of the movie. Unlike your normal PC, the touch screen allows users to be as hands on as possible, manipulating images with their fingertips.

The cool thing about this bad-boy is that Van Gogh could have even used it to create his own digital masterpieces, as unlike your standard touch screen, Surface uses a series of infra-red cameras can see when there’s movement on or across the screen. While not yet the big dog on the block, these machines are the wave of the future, bringing ease to your work presentations, and the fun back in computing for your everyman. Bottom line: in the coming years, you’ll see Microsoft Surface machines all over the place. Instead of trying to one-up Apple with a better OS, or higher powered computer, they’ve proven that anything can be done in the realm of technology. Let’s just hope this thing isn’t a gateway to the matrix…or did I speak too soon?

Asus and Intel teamed up recently to create the newest version of the Eee series PC’s. Dubbed “Eee” because of their slogan, “Easy to work, easy to learn, easy to play”, it sports an 8.9″ display, 1024×600 pixel screen, 1 GB of ram standard, 9-12GB solid-state flash hard drive, and a larger trackpad than it’s predecessor, the 7 series, with two finger scrolling using a pinching motion. The Window’s-read, Linux-capable Eee will also be eventually powered by Intel’s Atom processor, with future options for a bigger hard drive. Set for a release in April of this year, the device is inexpensive, coming in at around $500. However the main issues with this device are that the keyboard area is a bit cramped together, making it difficult to type, small screen size, small screen resolution, small hard drive space…well, I’m sure you get the picture.

But what you expect about a device so convenient that it can go wherever you need it whenever you need it?. On the upside, you won’t hesitate to travel with this lightweight laptop, as it fits easily in any bags and carry on, allowing you to do your work wherever and whenever. The perfect hybrid between those PDA’s that don’t seem to work, and your bulky laptop that you just can’t stand to carry around with you wherever you go. Booting fast to get work done without wasting time, it’s rigidly built, and sports a decent sound system, should you need to bump some tunes while getting in some extra work during your lunch break. All around, the Asus Eee PC 9 Series is the perfect laptop for those on the run, and don’t we all seem to have somewhere to be in a hurry these days?

Blu-ray sprang up out of the ground without any warning and before anyone knew what it was it suddenly became popular and a must have for anyone who loves to get the best viewing experience from their televisions. So when we heard that Hitachi had taken it to new levels by creating the DZ-BD7HA – the world’s first Blu-ray camcorder – we assumed that everyone would be excited and ready to get their hands on it.

The new camcorder costs a hefty amount – $1600 – to be exact. With that in mind we all want to make sure that it is worth the money. The DZ BD7HA is built with a good sized lens that has the ability to focus in a 5-50mm length and has an aperture range of f/1.8-f/3.0. The flash is built into the left lens and only goes off when the sensor is triggered. This is a flaw because if you were to try to attach a different lens to it than the flash would not go off.

The DZ-BD7HA was built with a mic jack, stereo microphone, 2.7” LCD screen, and a USB and HDMI port. Unfortunately the camcorder is full of many different buttons and features that they will miss the important ones. Another problem that people might have is the task of switching to the different modes (on, off, photo) because they are so close together.

We admit that the new DZ-BD7HA has a nice look to it and when it comes to taking pictures and videos it does an excellent job. Unfortunately it is not something that people can just pick up and know automatically how to use it. For the price that is given to it we would expect it to be more user-friendly. Now that Hitachi has broken the ice we can expect to see more and more companies breaking out with Blu-ray camcorders . One of them will be the one that everyone will love.
